Publication made possible thanks to financial assistance provided by the Canadian Heritage Museums Assistance Program, the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the City of Joliette and Patrice and Andrée Drouin.
This richly illustrated publication accompanies the exhibition of the same title organized and circulated by the Musée d'art de Joliette, initially presented at the MAJ in 2009, and currently presented at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre until August 1, 2011. This work brings together some thirty key works, executed between 1993 and 2008, which thematically reflect the artist's conception of abstract painting, the themes he explores and the styles he has explored. Through Les vidanges, the authors analyze the progressive transformation of François Lacasse's approach and the evolution of the artist's style through his research into the plastic qualities of matter and the optical effects of colour. This publication includes two original essays, one by Marie-Eve Beaupré, the curator of the exhibition Les vidanges , and the other by art historian and specialist in Canadian art, Roald Nasgaard.
