This lavishly illustrated publication includes an interview with the artist, as well as two original essays. The book accompanies the traveling exhibition of the same title, organized and initially presented at the Musée d’art de Joliette in 2009. Artist Marie-Josée Laframboise expands traditional notions of cartography by immersing herself in environments that she constructs from existing spaces. Her mixed-media sculptures draw attention to the elasticity of seemingly rigid architectural and geographic boundaries. By merging her interests in mathematics, architecture, and drawing, she disrupts our preconceived ideas of space (and place) and the ways in which our bodies traverse territory in their collective movements.
