This work was produced as part of the exhibition Regards en dialogue: Hébert, Laliberté, Suzor-Coté and Fleming. The A. K. Prakash Collection of Historical Sculptures, a gift to the Musée d'art de Joliette , presented at the Musée d'art de Joliette from October 3, 2020 to May 23, 2021.
It highlights and updates the collection of bronzes, generously donated to the Musée d'art de Joliette by Mr. AK Prakash, which includes sculptures by Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté, Alfred Laliberté and Louis-Philippe Hébert. Like the exhibition, the catalogue offers a fresh look at these works from the turn of the 20th century, presented in the heart of an installation by the artist Nicolas Fleming inspired by the Maison Antoine-Lacombe, a historic jewel of the Joliette region from the end of the 19th century.
Addressing many subjects, including the practice of the artists involved, cultural representation, colonialism and the development of domestic statuary in Quebec, this exhibition catalogue contains texts by Émilie Grandmont Bérubé and Anne-Élisabeth Vallée.
Many illustrations and exhibition views at the Musée d’art de Joliette are reproduced there.
This work is an edition of the Musée d'art de Joliette made possible thanks to the contribution of the AK Prakash foundation.
